Primary Emotions, Secondary Emotions

 

Joy, coming filled with laughter, bubbling up, perhaps as we are surrounded by loved ones…and fear, these are real. These are examples of primary emotions. The latter might even be called more of a valuable, physiological response to survival dangers than an actual emotion. Sadness too, is primary. These are natural, normal, healthy. There is not a problem with these or with the short-term experience of them….

 

 

 

 

Three Faces of Voice

 

Elizabeth Parks and her husband, Sean Taylor, were having some confusion around an upcoming trip they were planning together for their vacation.  It was not unlike other confusions they’d experienced in the past – sometimes around trips but also even around smaller decisions.  Misfired connection loomed for them around the bigger, ephemeral, intangible parts of life as well – leaving them both feeling a bit disconnected from each other in a way they couldn’t quite name….

In that the past has brought a firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) dollars into philanthropy, and the present has seen those dollars going into philanthropy with a bit of health or education sprinkled in, there is both competitive and first mover advantage available to those firms forward-thinking enough to take the next step forward and expect more from these dollars as they do from all other dollars spent….
